These courses are designed to introduce students to the Spanish language and to help them to communicate in Spanish effectively by providing the essential language needed in most common situations they may encounter while travelling in a Spanish speaking country.

12-WEEK COURSE

  • This course is suitable for learners who have very little or no experience.

  • By the end of this course, you should be able to use your Spanish and have the confidence to deal with authentic situations such as:

    • to introduce yourself

    • to greet and to have a go at simple conversations with Spanish speakers

    • to ask and answer basic questions (name, surname, phone and mobile number, email, profession, etc.)

    • to buy items in shops and ask about the price

    • to order drinks and food at a restaurant, café, or bar, and to ask for the bill

    • to ask information about places

    • to ask for directions

    • to explain common symptoms at the doctor

    • to give and take advice and recommendations

  • In our lessons we follow the Communicative Language Approach, in which the aim is to achieve the communicative rather than the linguistic competence through learner interaction. Although we believe that grammar is crucial when learning a language, we will not focus on teaching grammatical rules and structure but on using real-world situations to allow our students to learn using language for context and content. Nevertheless, we will be touching on some of the basics of grammar.

  • Specially prepared course material (a booklet) will be provided the first day of the course. However, it is recommended that you bring a notebook and a pen.

  • By the end of this course, you should be able to use your Spanish and have the confidence to deal with authentic situations such as:

    • to introduce yourself and others

    • to greet and open conversations

    • to ask and answer basic questions (nationality, phone number, email, etc.)

    • to describe professions, physical and personality traits of people and family

    • to express likes and dislikes

    • to talk about the weather

    • to give and ask the time

    • to talk about basic daily routines

    • to ask general questions about transportation, tickets and schedules

    • to book a room in a hotel

    • to order food in a restaurant

    • to talk about your plans and intentions
